Experience, Inc. was holding a competition to win a chance to job shadow at Digg.com. They were asking students to submit writing samples and they would pick the best five and then send the author with the most readers to Digg.com. I sent my writing sample in after a rough day at work where I had already downed about four cups of coffee - so my creativity wasn't at its highest. Fortunately, I was selected as a contestant and I got the chance to write about the tech sector for one awesome month. Unfortunately, I didn't win the overall competition but I was asked to stay on as a blogger for the technology part of the site.
I actually received my first job because of my blog. I had a good interview with an oil company in Wichita, KS, and I did my best to try and distinguish myself from the other candidates. I successfully did that when the HR department found my blog and passed it along to the people making the hiring decision. They liked my personality, my alacrity, and my penchant for wordsmithery.
Clint James wasn’t selected for an "Exclusive Experience" but began to contribute as a student blogger for Experience, Inc., on the subject of technology and leveraged those skills to secure his current job at Koch Industries.
