Bridging The Gap Between Small Business & Part-Time Workers:

To be a small business owner requires flexibility and unique problem-solving abilities in order to grow the business and ultimately succeed. Over the course of a year, many businesses experience fluctuations in their staffing needs and may find themselves in need of an extra pair of hands until a special project is completed or the workload is caught up.

Hiring additional full-time staff is often not feasible nor recommended for short term projects or periods of exceptionally high work load.

Urban Interns offers help to small businesses by providing a way for them to find part-time assistants or interns who are looking for flexible schedules, a way to make some extra money, or even an opportunity to gain relevant work experience in a particular career field of interest on a paid or unpaid basis.

Urban Interns was founded by two professionals, Lauren Porat and Cari Sommer, who wanted to solve the hiring needs of employers while also assisting candidates seeking part-time employment.

Employers can search the database for candidates possessing the knowledge and skills they’re looking for or they can choose to post a job on the site.

Employers can click on "I need help" or "post a job". Using the advanced search, a pop up list including available hours, minimum education, industry, and tasks comes up for employers to complete and click "Go".

Individuals seeking part-time work or relevant work experience in a career field of interest, can search the database for opportunities available. Job Seekers/Interns can also choose to post their profile including their unique qualifications and skills. All candidates must verify that they are current college students or college graduates to register. Candidates can click on "looking for a job" or "register now". Candidates also have an opportunity to complete available hours, minimum education level, industry, and tasks to identify the types of opportunities they are looking for.

Cost:

The site is free for both employers and interns to search and a $39.95 fee is required for employers to post a job and to obtain unlimited access to candidates registered on the site for 30 days. Interns can elect a premium package for $12.95.
