The White House Internship Program

Numerous Opportunities Available for Interns at the White House

Internship opportunities with The Public Service Leadership Program are available in numerous offices and departments. These internships provide an inside look at the workings of the federal government and an opportunity to work with various members of the administration.

In addition to college juniors and seniors, non-traditional aged students, graduate, and law students are also encouraged to apply. Those applying for an internship must be eighteen years of age on or before the first day of the internship, enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a community college, college, or university (2-4 year institution), or must have graduated within the past two years from an undergraduate or graduate school; OR a veteran of the US Armed Forces with a high school diploma or its equivalent who has actively served the country over the course of the last two years.

Spring internships run between January and May while summer internships take place between May and August.

Eligibilty to Apply:

  • Must be a United States citizen
  • Must be at least 18 years of age on or before the first day of the internship
  • Must be currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college or university OR graduated in the past two years from undergraduate or graduate program at a college, community college or university OR
  • Must be a veteran of the United States Armed forces who possesses a high school diploma or its equivalent and has served on active duty at any time over the past two years

All Candidates must submit:

  • Two Essays (300-500 words)
  • Current One-Page Resume
  • Three Letters of Recommendation

The Public Service Leadership Program provides an in-depth view of what it's actually like working in the Executive Office and a chance to get hands-on experience working in public service.

In addition, the D.C. Scholars Program offers part-time unpaid opportunities to students from public and charter schools in the D.C. area.
