About GE:

In 1892 Edison General Electric Company (established in 1890 by Thomas Alva Edison) and its main competitor, The Thomson-Houston Company, merged and called the new organization the General Electric Company (GE). Combining the dynamo and other electrical devices, including the incandescent electric lamp that Thomas Edison brought to the table and the dominant electrical innovation company, Thomson-Houston, which became stronger through a series of mergers; these two companies were able to combine their individual patents and technologies to be able to produce complete electrical installations.

Anyone living in the Northeast can visit the Museum of Innovation & Science in Schenectady, New York which maintains an archive of historical GE information and photography in its Hall of Electrical History.

GE offers a number of different types of programs for student looking to gain experience working for a popular and well-established company.

Programs Available:

The Experienced Commercial Leadership Program (ECLP), United States

This internship is the prime development opportunity for future sales and marketing leaders.

Financial Management Program (FMP), United States

The Financial Management Program is an intensive two-year entry-level program with four rotational assignments, including: financial planning, accounting operations analysis, auditing, and forecasting and is often the first step to a successful management career at GE. The FMP program helps recent college graduates to further develop their leadership and analytical skills through classroom training and company assignments that will help to increase their knowledge and skills working in the industry.

Human Resources Leadership Program (HRLP)

GE focuses on the development of strong HR professionals to work in their highly diverse working environment. GE believes that training is key to develop strong leaders in the role of HR professionals within a diverse global company such as GE.

Information Technology Leadership Program (ITLP)

This program is a leader in promoting technical leadership at GE. IT professionals will get a chance to grow their leadership skills, business acumen and technical aptitude, while building a career that offers unlimited potential for future growth. Information technology (IT) is critical to the future of GE. With nearly 10,000 IT professionals in roughly 50 countries, GE IT represents a major area of focus and investment across the company and is essential to maintaining their strong leadership, competitiveness and success in the industry.

Business Internships Abroad:

Africa Internship Program:

GE is currently recruiting high-level college/university students to work in administration and support in the business management function in the following locations: Nigeria, Ghana, Angola, South Africa, Zambia and Kenya.

Internship in Engineering Technical Controls/Electrical:

Students wanting to become part of an organization and leader in technology and innovation will want to learn more about this opportunity for engineering or post-graduate students. This internship is for 6 months duration and those students who are successful will have a chance to participate in the selection of the Edison Engineering Development Program (EEDP) taking place in May.

Qualifications:

  • GE seeks undergraduate students graduating in May for Master Degree Graduates in one or more of the following disciplines: Electronic Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering or any equivalent of these degrees.
  • GE looks for candidates who possess good knowledge of the English language, passion for technology, team player, process oriented, curious, flexible and open minded.

Financial Management Program (FMP) Internship:

GE Global Growth & Operations – GE Germany

GE’s FMP Internship is the first step that applicants need to take to participate in GE’s prestigious FMP Program. Students who successfully complete the program will be considered for a full-time graduate position.

FMP is an intensive two-year entry-level leadership program that includes four rotational assignments. Participants will spend 6 to 12 months building their knowledge and skills in specific areas, such as: financial planning and analysis (FP&A), controllership or supply chain finance.

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must have superior academic achievement in finance, accounting, business studies, economics, mathematics or engineering preferred.
  • A demonstrated interest and competency in finance.
  • Must be self-motivated and driven.
  • Must have the ability to lead and work towards an end goal and possess strong time management skills.
  • The ability to push though adversity while working directly with an extensive group of people in a diverse environment.
  • Must have excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills.
  • Must be flexible, adaptable, and geographically mobile.
  • Fluent in the English language (written and spoken) and other languages are a plus.
  • Candidate must have unrestricted authorization to work in Europe.
