Top Intern Employers for 2008
Each year CollegeGrad.com, the entry level job search site devoted totally to college students and new graduates, posts The Top Intern Employers of The Year on their website. I look forward to this year’s posting coming out in early spring since it will provide students with important information on the employers who really are committed to hiring students for internships this year.
This year’s listing will be especially important for college students and new grads due to the state of the economy and the reduction in hiring that is being experienced across the country. In a recent conversation with CollegeGrad.com, I was told that "The Top /Entry Level/ Employers for 2009" is expected out soon and a "Top Intern Employers for 2009" expected out in spring".
I recommend students to take a look at these lists to identify employers that they would be interested in working for. Since hiring is down and expected to remain so for awhile, internships become increasingly more valuable and important for students and new graduates. Internships can be the catalyst in a tough economy and make the difference between getting hired for a full time job or not.
I’ve been hearing lately in the news that, if you have not done so already, now is the time to make yourself indispensable to your employer. I recommend that students take this same approach. After you’ve applied, interviewed, and been accepted for an internship; this is only the first step to making this experience the most that it can be. Be sure to define your goals up front before you even start your internship. Whether your goals are to turn your internship into a full time job offer, gain relevant work experience in your field, make valuable networking connections, get excellent recommendations, or use it to document real world experience on your resume – the bottom line is to do what it takes to make yourself indispensable to your employer. This approach will ensure that you are able to reach your goals, whatever they may be.
