Winter Break is Almost Here!

Sunday December 16, 2007
Winter break is a great time to unwind and forget all about college papers, reports, and examinations. After all, you deserve a break. Even though students are scrambling to complete all of their last minute assignments, I also notice that many students are concerned over what they are going to do next summer or, for seniors, after graduation.

Many students have been making last minute appointments to meet with a career counselor before returning home for the holidays. They are interested in getting their resume and/or cover letter critiqued; as well as learning about ways they can begin connecting (networking) with alumni or professionals in the field. A number of students are interested in working or doing an internship during break or they want to begin looking for potential internships for next summer.

Making good use of winter break can offer great benefits. Having a resume ready to send employers will definitely help alleviate stress once you begin identifying internships or jobs you are interested in applying for. Doing an internship during winter break can add valuable knowledge and skills to your resume. Last but not least, beginning your internship search for next summer will alert you to those internships that have early deadlines as well as help you identify the many options available for students seeking summer internships in a variety of career fields.
