Parents of children with disabilities are aware of the laws and have most likely been advocating for their child throughout their school years. As their children plan for college, accommodations can also be made for students taking College Board tests like the SAT’s. The first step in the process is meeting the College Board’s eligibility requirements and Guidelines for Documentation.
Parents and students must understand that accommodations are not automatically provided to students even if they have received them throughout their elementary and secondary school years. The Parent’s Letter provided by The College Board Services for Students with Disabilities (SSD) reviews the steps that need to be followed when requesting accommodations for a student to take College Board tests. The College Board must approve accommodations prior to a student taking College Board tests which can be accomplished either through a school verification process or a document review.
If the student's “disability” is due to a temporary problem, applicants do not go through the formal process of requesting accommodations; but instead, complete a Temporary Accommodation Request Form or schedule the test for a later date
