Internship and job opportunities are available with wire services, syndicates, magazines, and radio and television stations which offer jobs in reporting, writing, and editing. One or more internships can provide valuable experience and help to build a strong writing portfolio. It is best to start looking for summer opportunities during the fall semester due to the intense competition of people looking to gain experience in the field. It may be necessary to contact employers directly to inquire about internships since many publications do not post them on their website.

JournalismJobs.com claims to be the largest and most-visited resource for media jobs. This is a great site for those seeking internships or jobs in newspapers, magazines, publications, tv, radio, trade publications, newsletters, PR, and media relations. It is a relatively easy site to use and depending on when you're looking it can offer a number of competitive internships or jobs. Since many deadlines for journalism internships are posted early (October through December), it's important for students to begin looking for summer internships during this time frame and not wait until spring semester which may be too late to search for the best opportunities.
