Several years ago we sponsored fours students to attend the Action Without Borders conference at UC Berkeley. I also had the opportunity to attend and it was an amazing conference with nonprofits attending from all over the world. There were a number of workshops dealing with many of the social issues we are faced with today. Being from a small town in northeastern New York, I had never dealt or even thought much about homelessness and its causes except when I traveled to New York City once in awhile. These workshops had actual homeless participants who told their story and helped the audience understand that this horrendous issue is not about an unwillingness to work but often a far deeper problem that many of us cannot comprehend.
Students are often able to find internship or volunteer opportunities on Idealist.org that they could not find elsewhere. They offer a dynamic website that allows you to perform detailed searches for opportunities all over the world. If you’re interested in making a difference in the world, Idealist.org may have just the right opportunity for you.
