Guide Review
For many years
Monster was one of my most used websites for finding internships, and I must say they are still there at the top of my list for finding numerous internship opportunities in a vast number of career fields and locations. As internships have become increasingly more popular, there are more and more resources popping up all over the place. I find that some internship sites tend to focus on a particular industry or caeer field, so it's often a matter of interest and location that dictates which site is best for finding a particular internship.
Monster offers a broad range of opportunities making it easy to search for internships all in one place.
Monster offers students many opportunities and operates sites in 23 countries around the world. Students find internships by selecting a keyword (job titles, required skills, company names), category, and location or they can do an Advanced Search that allows them to include job type, job status, green careers, along with the ability to enter up to 20 different states, categories, and/or industries.
Finding Internships
When seeking to find an internship in a specific career field or location, try keeping your search broad at first. If too many results pop up, then narrow your search to find a more manageable number of internships in the industry or location you choose. Individual Monster accounts must be created since a Monster username and password will not work on Monster.
MonsterTRAK Helps Students & Employers Connect
Monster offers free resume posting for students and free job posting for employers. This free service helps students and employers connect more quickly which consequently fills more internships and jobs.
Monster also offers employers access to a large number of student resumes which students can post on the site and then elect to make them public or private, based on the their individual preference. Only one resume at a time can be designated as public but students can choose any one of the five resumes and cover letters that they are able to house on the site and send them directly to employers via the Apply button or the company website.
Monster offers tips on resume and cover letter writing as well as articles on interviewing, salary and benefits, and internship and job searching. Students can create up to five search agents to ensure that they receive all new listings in their area of interest and also offers a History of all internships and jobs that students have applied to via the Apply button. Students can apply for positions either by directly hitting the Apply button on the Monster internship listing or by being channeled directly to the company website.
Students can also select to receive Monster newsletters and get online updates on new and important information. The ability to post resumes and cover letters, receive updates, and maintain a History of internship applications is a nice feature that helps students keep their internship and entry-level job search organized and under control.
