Survival Guide for College Students

Helpful Tips for College Students

By , About.com Guide

This Survival Guide came from my experience working with college students over the course of their four years on campus. I've seen many students approach college in ways that ensure success; while I also see many other students who don't know what to do and lack the basic skills that will help them accomplish their personal and professional goals. My first question to students often is, "what do you want to accomplish during your 4 years in college?" Below are some of the responses I usually receive:

  1. I want to get an education that will help me accomplish my goals.
  2. I want to get a well-rounded education that will help me find the work I love.
  3. I want to become a better person.
  4. I want to be able to contribute to the global marketplace.
  5. I want to prove to myself and my family that I have what it takes to be successful.
  6. I want to better understand the problems the world is facing today and find a way that I can contribute to solving some of these problems.
  7. I want to use my creativity to enjoy and help others enjoy the finer things in life.
