A Guide for LGBTQ Students

Many colleges have Pride Alliance groups for students on campus.  Like any group, these groups provide a safe haven for students and a place where they are able to express themselves and feel more accepted.  Most colleges also have a Student Diversity Office where students from diverse backgrounds can re-group and participate in programs and events that are targeted to their interests and focused on meeting their needs.

Identifying these Ally groups on campus will not only help students feel safe and more accepted; but will also provide valuable resources that can assist them in acclimating and feeling more comfortable on campus.  For more information, please check out our Guide for LGBTQ Students.

Although some students are very comfortable with their sexual orientation and identity, there are also those students who are very hesitant or afraid of coming out which may also cause them to have a tendency to keeping themselves isolated  from other students or groups on campus. Each person must make their own choice on the coming out process; but whatever they decide to do, it's important to have allies where they can feel comfortable voicing their concerns and where they can get some support and valuable feedback.
