Employers Seek College Students to Assist with Social Media

Saturday October 3, 2009

With all the hoopla about social media it's not surprising the number of internships and jobs that are springing up from this relatively new, exciting and sometimes irritating phenomena.

In addition to working directly onsite, the social media craze is especially intriguing for college students since many students are able to complete an internship directly from their residence hall while still on campus.  Since college students have more knowledge and experience with this line of communication, companies are seeking students who can help them learn what they need to do to promote themselves and their companies via social media networks online.

Here's an example of an internship I recently saw posted at a major company in NYC:

1. Passionate about social media; in other words: you love it, live it and would crawl across broken glass to spend all day working learning about Social Media across Asia.

2.  You must be an active blogger, Twitterer and have accounts on more than one social network.

I also recently saw a posting on Craig's list for a social media blogger and guru in Boston.

These internships and jobs offer enormous opportunities for students who are still in college as well as those who have recently graduated or will be graduating in the immediate future.  These are an example of the "new jobs" that didn't exist several years ago but are cropping up now due to the ongoing advancement of technology.  As college students, this stuff comes natural and for professionals it can be a nightmare keeping up with all of the hype on the benefits of social media.
