Interning in DC

This week I visited Washington, DC, and while I was there I couldn't help but think what it would be like to intern in this great city and learn what it's actually like working for the federal government. There are many opportunities for students interested in gaining experience in government, political science, and public policy, such as: The White House Internship Program and The Capital Semester, just to name a few. Although these positions are highly competitive, with fortitude and persistence, along with a high GPA, experience in student government, community service, and leadership, students might just find themselves interning on Capitol Hill, the White House, or in one of the many government offices within the city.

It was a great trip since my son, who has completed several internships at the State Capitol in the State of New York while getting his master's degree in Political Science, was able to accompany me. It was fascinating for us to see all of the young people working in and around the capitol and realizing what a wonderful experience it must be for students interested in government to be able to have this chance to contribute and learn first-hand how the federal government really operates on a day to day basis.
