Try A New Approach

Wednesday March 19, 2008
Finding the right internship can be difficult but by no means impossible. Perhaps you have researched internships and tried finding some that will meet your goals and offer you the experience you are seeking. You’ve checked out all of the online internship databases and have gone through the Internship Bible (as well as a number of other books), but still have not found anything that’s of interest to you.

Why not make your own internship? By researching companies of interest or contacting organizations who employ people who are currently doing what it is that you hope to do, you may just find that perfect internship that will offer you the experience you are looking for. Prospecting for internships can offer students some of the best internships available. First of all, there will probably be much less competition since these internships are usually not advertised. Secondly, you may be able to provide the employer with input on what it is you want to do. So, if you still have not landed an internship for summer - why not try a different approach? By finding employers you want to work for, you will increase the odds of getting an internship that meets your needs and helps you gain the experience you are looking for.
