We’ve all heard stories about interns who walked away from their internship experience learning so much about an organization and its culture while developing the relevant skills required to get
hired and succeed in the field. This summer I’ve heard from students who have done amazing internships as well as several students who thought that their internships were basically a waste of time. In his article,
Making the Best of a Bad Internship Experience, Rich Bottner explains some of the pitfalls of unpaid internships as well as offering tips on how to make a bad internship experience better.
In an internship survey completed last year, Rich from InternBridge discovered that 25% of the interns surveyed, were offered full-time positions at the conclusion of their internship experience and a little over 25% were still waiting for potential job offers. These students came from 31 different colleges in the New England area. This year Rich is doing a similar survey that so far includes 104 universities and colleges all over the country. We’ll be interested in seeing the results from Rich’s survey next year. If you receive an email from a representave at your college, please consider filling out the survey – prizes will be awarded to a number of random participants. Take this opportunity to voice your opinion and you may be the lucky recipient of a great prize! (For example, last year’s prizes included a laptop, spring break vacation, $750 in Target gift cards, and more.)
