If you are still looking for something to fill up those months before returning to campus, how about working at a summer camp? If you are interested in education as a future job, summer camps are great resume builders. You may choose between a day or overnight camp which, either way, gives you great experience in working with children. College students often get an opportunity to use their talents and skills by teaching children about a variety of things, such as: acting, art, science, sports, the environment, as well as other additional basic survival skills such as cooking, first aid, and swimming, etc.
Communication, interpersonal, and leadership are all necessary skills required by counselors. Working at a summer camp provides many opportunities for students to work directly one-on-one with campers as well as leading them in group activities and educational sessions.
Most overnight camps provide room and board and give students an opportunity to live in a new environment without having to pay any living expenses.
Ask that you be put on a wait list if the camp has already hired its counselors for the summer, since plans may change and new opportunities may open up. You can also follow up just prior to the start of camp to see if there are any unforeseen vacancies that have occurred.
