What Some College Students are Doing for the Summer
This is an exciting time of year for professionals working with college students. It’s a time when you see students taking the knowledge and skills they have gained in the classroom and applying them in the real world. For seniors, this most likely means a job - unless they’re lucky enough to be able to travel or experiment with some cool experience on an island in the Caribbean or traveling around Europe; for underclass students it often means a summer internship.
Over the past several weeks I’ve spoken to a number of students who were doing exciting internships over the course of the summer. I recently spoke to three female students who were actually doing their internships in Paris, one for Yahoo.com and the other for Westin Hotels in their Finance Department. In addition, I had four students interning in The Big Apple – one for EMI Music North America , another at The New York Times, as well as INROADS and Glamour Magazine. Although these students are participating in very different types of internships, they will all be gaining valuable experience in a variety of career fields. In addition to the obvious skills and accomplishments students gain, they will also be developing networking contacts as well as relevant experience to help build a strong resume to be used in their future job search.
